BUAP is the Fifth Institution of Latin America Outstanding in Physics
The US News Education company published in January the 2018 results of the ranking of best educational institutions around the world. Taking into account all the areas of knowledge that were evaluated in this study, BUAP ranks 573 worldwide, ranked 15th in Latin America and second in Mexico, after UNAM. However, in the area of Physics, BUAP ranks number 187 worldwide, fifth in Latin America, after three Brazilian institutions and one in Argentina, and number one in Mexico.
In order to carry out this ranking, 1,295 institutions were evaluated that published at least 1,500 articles, books or high-impact conferences in a period of five years: 2011-2015.
For this evaluation, 13 indicators were taken into account, the source of which is the Clarivate Analytics company, through InCites-Web Of Science, that is, they are based on the scientific productivity of the universities:
The position of a university worldwide depends on its scientific productivity and its impact at an international level (citations), and in the specific context of this ranking, the position is determined by the specific weight of each of the previous 13 indicators.
According to InCites tool, from Clarivate Analytics, in BUAP the 10 disciplinary areas with the highest scientific output are:
- Physics, Particles & Fields
- Astronomy & Astrophysics
- Physics, Nuclear
- Physics, Multidisciplinary
- Optics
- Materials Science, Multidisciplinary
- Chemistry, Physical
- Physics, Applied
- Instruments & Instrumentation
- Chemistry, Multidisciplinary
In following graph you can see preponderance of each research topic at BUAP (the index in each area corresponds to the number of citations of articles in the 2013-2017 period).
